Dave and Lisa were one of the first couples that we photographed back in the day, and needless to say, we were thrilled when they found out they were expecting! Little man S joined their family earlier this month and we had such a fun evening capturing his newborness. He even pulled out a new look for us: think Blue Steel from Zoolander. He was all a-pucker and his parents just kept cracking up. He's definitely going to be a performer, this one. And we can't wait to watch him grow!

We've been woefully neglectful at posting sessions during the crazy few weeks that have just passed, and I'll be getting caught up here in the next couple of weeks. But this one just couldn't wait...

We photographed Baby M and his family at home early this week, just as the snows set in. I love doing newborn sessions at home, where everything reflects their life and style, but this one was a particularly special experience. They are a wonderful, amazing family and being able to be a part of their life with Baby M was a truly beautiful thing. Though this was not your typical newborn session, we loved the images that we were able to capture and hope that their family and friends will as well.

I had been friends with Ellen way back in our single days and ran into her on LinkedIn a while ago. She's since had a little boy and so it wasn't long before we talked about doing pictures of their adorable little family. C is quite the little speed demon and so Will and I got our workout that afternoon literally running to and fro to capture him within our frames. But I'd say these pictures were well worth it!

We had done a session with Anna's extended family this last spring, when her entire family was together, and we had such a great time and captured such great images that Eric and their daughter ended up being our spring marketing image! So when Anna called me about doing holiday photos, I was thrilled. We spent a hilarious morning in the Rose Gardens, chasing their two little girls around (M mostly wanted to go up the stairs endlessly) and playing with everyone. Anna's procurement of Saint Cupcakes helped things along splendidly as well :) And the girls even shared with each other! That's what we call a holiday miracle!

Last year it was the Pearl, and this year, we're loving the Eastbank Esplanade! The views of the city are perfect for so many families, including the Davis family. Jessica and Pete produce NW Kids Magazine and so showcasing the city as part of who their family is just seemed natural. We had a fun afternoon playing down on the dock, pretending to be on a pirate ship (I think that was E's highlight), and cavorting on the beach. We finished just as the sun was settting behind our fair city, which seemed to be a perfectly fitting ending to such a lovely day.

I recently did photographs for a local preschool-- not the "sit and smile" variety, but really fun portraiture with each child-- and the Tobias-White's daughter was one of the children photographed. She'd been so fun and sweet that when they called I was thrilled. And the whole family was that way. They played and danced together and made faces and even moonwalked. It was so much fun that in the end, we literally had to just tear ourselves away.

We met the Poidas in what may be an unconventional way: I responded to Oliver's ad on Craigslist for a leather chair that he was selling. (It's beautiful, and now resides in our studio). We hit it off so famously during that shopping trip that they ended up doing a session with us for their holiday portraits. And oh, how glad am I that they did! Their little girl was an absolute doll to work with-- and quite the ham, as you'll see in the photos-- as were her parents. We can't wait to see them again soon.

We photographed the Elsom family back in September, when the leaves were just beginning to turn and the last hints of summer were still in the air. It's fun to look back and see all of that life! And not just in the surroundings, but in the family too. Their girls have living down pat and spending an afternoon with them was simply delightful.

We photographed these adorable boys--two brothers and their cousin-- last week at The Pumpkin Patch at Sauvie Island and it was quite the adventure. Sometimes I forget, having a girl, how much expendable energy little boys can have. It took lots (and I do mean lots) of creativity to get them in one place at one time. But it was a fun challenge and I am totally loving the images of them that we were able to capture because they're so real and fun and natural, just like they are!

This was a session that sort of was and sort of wasn't. We'd planned to photograph Baby A, and her family too, for her first Milestones session. But when we got to their house she was not in the best of spirits. We played with her a bit but she was soon very ready for a nap. So we just rolled with it and captured some images of her sleeping, and then caught something very rare-- her parents having time just the two of them! We'll be going back soon to finish the session, so you'll get to see her sweet face again, but here's a few from our first session.

We've been friends with Doug and Tiffany for a couple of years now. Well, sort of friends of friends. And now, after having done a session with their family I'm feeling remiss that we didn't really connect until now because they are such fun people. Unfortunately, this year wraps up Doug's residency at our local medical school and they will be moving a considerable distance. This session was sort of the beginning of their wrap-up: we photographed them in a few quintissential Portland locations, and of course had a rollicking good time doing it. I chased their little boys so hard and fast that I felt like I'd done another race the next day. But for these pictures, it was totally worth it.

We spent last Saturday morning with little E, who was bright and shiny, as most babies are first thing in the morning (good thing we have one of our own so that we could accomodate that hour!) We shot in her adorable pink and blue bedroom and then in their back yard, where she has her own special garden. And then we lured her dad for a few pictures on their front porch. I'm so glad because they're my favorites from the whole shoot!

So, if "The Cupcake Kids" were one set of a type of family shoot, the R family was definitely at the other end. We shot R & M's wedding on Saturday and the evening before did a giant, extended family shoot with her family. They live all over the world now, literally, and so getting together was a great treat for them. We did a large family portrait, something not in our normal repertoire, and also took shots of them interacting and being a family. Here are some of the outtakes, as it were.

We did a session with the A family on Saturday morning, and though I'm generally of the opinion that, like children, you shouldn't have favorite clients... this session was SO FUN! We met them at Jamison Square, in the Pearl, and played and played and played. Then we went for a walk to the cupcake shop, at 10:30 in the morning, and indulged in a kind of decadence that I have only dreamed of. I mean, really, who gets to eat cupcakes at 10:30? Well, we did, and they did, and it was splendid. I had so many favorites from this session that I really have no idea how I'm going to weed them down for their session tonight. But here's a few to whet their appetites...

We've been photographing the R family for over a year now. Baby A was the our first Milestones baby (check out Reversed Lens Photography for more information on our packages) and our sessions with him were so much fun that his mom decided to do a session with his older sister, L, on her third birthday. This session was bittersweet, though, as it was both the last session for him (he's ONE! I can hardly believe it!) and because their family is moving away. They'll only be gone for a year, to the desert where his dad is beginning a medical residency. But we will miss them-- and their cherubic faces-- sorely!
